ODOGWU EZE FIDELIS
BIOGRAPHY
Odogwu Fidelis Eze is a prolific artist whose mastery of metal twisting and fabrication has earned him the celebrated moniker, "The Prince of Metal." Among art collectors and critics alike, some now regard him as "The King of Metal."
Born on November 17, 1970, in Agbor, Delta State, Fidelis pursued his higher education at the prestigious School of Art and Design, Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State. He graduated in 1991 with a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Sculpture. Earlier in his career, between 1988 and 1989, he worked under the mentorship of the renowned Nigerian master sculptor, Ben Osawe.
Fidelis’s inborn talent for transforming metal into works that appear as light and delicate as paper has made him a favourite among collectors worldwide.
In May 2013, Fidelis delivered a lecture titled “The Trends in Contemporary Art Practice in Nigeria” at SOAS University, London. Later that year, in November, he participated in the IFITRY Artists’ Residency in Morocco, where he connected with prominent figures such as Rachid Koraichi and Chris Spring.
Among his accolades, Fidelis was awarded third prize in the Nigerian Breweries Limited (NBL)/African Artists Foundation Art Competition in 2010 and received a Certificate of Merit from the Guinness Nigeria PLC Art Exhibition in 2004.
He is an active member of the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA), the Guild of Professional Fine Artists of Nigeria (GFA), and the African Artists Foundation.
Fidelis Eze is a rare artist—one who remains true to himself and fiercely loyal to his craft.
