At Infinite Treasures, we are deeply proud to celebrate one of our very own artists, Opeyemi Olukotun, whose first solo exhibition, Through My Window, There Is A View, is now showing at the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba from June 19 to September 6, 2025.

In a world where African voices are too often filtered through someone else’s lens, Opeyemi’s work speaks boldly—with truth, tenderness, and technical mastery. His latest body of work reflects an artist who has not only refined his craft but embraced his evolving story with courage and clarity.

A Singular Journey, A Universal Voice

Through this collection of emotionally charged figurative paintings, Opeyemi invites us into an intimate view of life as an immigrant—navigating grief, isolation, cultural shifts, and ultimately, creative rebirth. His deeply personal process—interwoven with memories of home, mentorship by the great Abiodun Olaku, and new experiences in Brandon, Manitoba—reminds us why African art is a force of both revelation and resilience.

As he shared in conversation with curator Lucie Lederhendler:

“There are deeper things, and deeper tonal traditions that I want to have. If I rush it, I might not have those intense and emotive feelings coming out from those pieces.”

And indeed, this exhibition captures those layered emotions through every brushstroke.

Why We Celebrate This Moment

At Infinite Treasures, we believe that African artists deserve to be celebrated on their own terms, in their own voice, and in the most visible spaces on earth.

Opeyemi’s first solo exhibition marks an important chapter—not only in his journey, but in the broader story of African artistic excellence rising on global stages.

When African art is championed in Canada, Europe, or anywhere abroad—it is not “diversity.” It is global excellence finding its rightful place.

We honour Opeyemi’s dedication, depth, and discipline. And we are excited to see more African artists breaking new ground internationally.
